A Bit of History

The economic owner, a Swiss citizen and somewhat of an aesthete at times, wanted to make Domaine de La Rameille his "great masterpiece".

It all started over 25 years ago with the visit of around fifty real estate properties for sale, from the south of Drôme to the south of Luberon, on both sides of the Rhône. When he discovered La Rameille in September 1997, he knew within the first minute that it would be "the one."

Everything was in ruins and overgrown: buildings, green spaces, agricultural land. But the biotope, the altitude, the view, an infinite tranquility, and a grand potential were present like nowhere else.

It all continued with successive and tireless acquisitions to shape this future estate. And simultaneously, significant infrastructure work began even before the first house became inhabitable: burying power and telephone lines, drilling five deep wells, creating an underground technical room for water pumping, storage, and filtration, constructing a network for drinking water distribution and irrigation, felling hundreds of invasive Aleppo pines (which posed a fire and biodiversity risk) and replacing them with native noble tree species, renovating two marvelous winemaker's sheds for horses and hay, and subsequently creating a small lake, among other things.

Finally, the renovations of the two current residential houses came, starting with the creation of a large underground technical room in the middle of the garden. It was designed to house the liquid gas boiler (to avoid noise disturbances in the buildings), salt filtration system, and heating for the pools. Additionally, there was a storage room for outdoor accessories with a bathroom and toilet facilities.

And continuing with the most prestigious craftsmanship and materials available in the region: manually applied and polished coatings (colored with sands from La Rameille), custom-made Vernin faience tiles (handcrafted), luxury plumbing fixtures (including Horus), traditional wrought ironwork, top-quality stones and slabs from the finest nearby quarries (Crillon-le-Brave, Espeil), noble marbles from Carrara and Liguria, stucco, tadelakt, and other organic coatings for the interiors, design and realization of ornamental gardens and their lighting, and so on.

Domaine de La Rameille experienced 20 years of intense happiness: a wedding, children, baptisms, unforgettable celebrations, and visits from hundreds of friends.

Recently, there have been a few challenging years, including the sale of 10 hectares of vineyards due to discouragement in the profession. The owner also faced the realization that their grown children, who once loved the estate, have lost interest in it. Furthermore, other life events called the economic owner to other continents.

Over the course of 25 years, a total of 8 million euros has been invested (including acquisitions), unfortunately without completing the "master mansion" known as "Mas de La Rameille" due to lack of time.

The owner, from an economic standpoint, doesn't expect to recoup his money, but he wants to believe that a discerning potential buyer could carry on a form of "vision" with renewed energy.

And if not, he will still host beautiful celebrations there…
